Madison went to high school with "Saby" and had known him and his baseball friends for a while when she invited them to a UT football game that I was at with my friends. I was instantly impressed by the number of boys she had following her around and came to find out they all went to the church I had been planning on visiting for the first time the next day. We soon became a group of the first college students at Antioch and went on to lead a lifegroup together in the fall of 2017. I was turned off by how little he cared about football and how much he loved baseball, but quickly came to realize through spending more time with him that he was someone to keep an eye on. He was hilarious, had a magnetic personality, and was a born leader, drawing people to Jesus just by the way he lived his life. I was hooked, but tried to talk myself out of my crush over Thanksgiving break because I didn't want to be distracted by someone who was "clearly not interested in me". Fast forward 5 days and he called me out of the blue to ask me out... God has a good sense of humor! There have been high highs and low lows but he's been faithful, pursuing me in the difficult times and celebrating with me in the victories. There's no one else I would become a baseball fan for, and no one else I want to spend the rest of my life with!
I was a sophomore in College, proudly rocking my notorious Brixton hat to a UT football game, when I met Paige. She may say she didn't know I was the one then but 3 years later there is no doubt that it was love at first sight for her and Brixton. We became good friends over the course of that first year as we served together at Antioch and were a part of the College Ministry. I knew early on Paige was the kind of friend you wanted in your corner. She loved big. She was genuine and consistent. She was funny and kind. I knew I had to ask her out but I just had no idea if she was interested in me in any way. That all changed the day of Game 5 of the 2017 World Series. You might remember that game as one of the greatest World Series games of all time. Two heavyweights, the Astros and Dodgers, going back and forth to the tune of a 12-12 score going into the 10th. Then there's of course the Alex Bregman walk off in the 10th. But for me it was Paige sliding into my snapchat DMs a couple of hours before first pitch that confirmed there was a chance she might like me that sticks out. I proceeded to ask her out on a date a little over a month after. Ever since that day, pursuing Paige has been one of the greatest joys of my life. Through two Hilltopper baseball seasons, 2 long distance summers in the Dominican Republic, a final long distance stint on the West Coast and all the time in between I've gotten to appreciate even more of that genuine and fun-loving girl I asked out on a date 2 years prior. Paige sets the bar high with her unwavering convictions, consistency in her pursuit of Jesus and her deep love for her family and friends and I'm all the better for it. I really do think I'm the luckiest guy to get to spend forever with her.
