Rob and Devon met as many Millennials do – via a dating app. Still grappling with the early aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, both Rob and Devon were ready to dip their toes back into dating in summer 2021. They matched on Bumble, a dating app, where at the time, the woman was required to send the first message. This was no problem for Devon as Rob had answered a prompt that was a perfect ‘in’ – his absolute disdain for mayonnaise. Devon couldn’t agree more and after swapping a few messages, Rob quickly asked her out to celebrate their mutual abhorrence for the smelly, jiggly condiment. They went out on a very rainy August Wednesday (which Devon almost bailed on) and ended up at the only place they could easily get in during COVID times- Oscars, a Center City dive bar, where they had to sit diagonally from one another as the booths were so ripped. The conversation was easy, and the vibes were high, so they ventured to a second spot- Vintage Wine Bar, where Rob ordered a champagne flight (?!?!). Following that first night, many dates, meetings of friends and family, and Eagles tailgates followed and by mid fall 2021, they were officially exclusive. Rob told Devon he loved her for the first time on NYE 2022 which she ignored and brushed off, assuming it was the alcohol and new year feelings talking. But their love continued to grow and deepen, spending more time with each other’s families and talking about plans for the future. Since that fateful night in August 2021, Rob and Devon moved in together, traveled to Spain, Boston, California, Mexico, Grand Cayman, Virginia, South Carolina (to name a few), bought a house in Philadelphia’s Fairmount neighborhood, adopted the light of their lives, Lola, and most importantly, got engaged at Devon’s beloved historic home right before it sold in April 2024. Capping off celebrations that evening at their favorite bar, The International, with their Philly people, followed by an intimate celebration with some of their closest friends and family in June 2024 at Pub and Kitchen, their favorite neighborhood spot. If the last 4 years of joy, support, and making memories are any indication of what’s in store for their future, they are in for a journey filled with love, growth, and exploration together. That is as long as neither of them ever brings home mayo from the grocery store…
