Houston's Santa Monica Pier! If you're wanting to take a day trip, this is a place after the Bride's heart for a warm summer day.

If you're looking for a reason to peruse Houston proper, here's a good spot, with a dinosaur hall, butterfly house, and even an IMAX theater.
