Acropolis & The Parthenon
Do we need to explain?! Perhaps the most iconic monuments that exist today, dedicated to the Goddess of Athena (protector of the ancient city of Athens). If you don't do a guided tour to hear the rich history behind these architectural feats, do go to the museum where they have videos and presentations on the history and preservation.
Acropolis Museum
Brand new - stunning displays and uncovered artifacts. You can find this museum right by the Acropolis. More importantly, it's air conditioned and there is plenty of food :)

The Greeks have always been dramatic, no?
Temple of Olympian Zeus
Located SE of the Acropolis (you can walk there) this temple, the unusually tall columns, and ambitious layout made it one of the largest ever built in the ancient world!
Main Olympic Stadium
Who can resist a quick run around the track at this historical and impressive marble stadium?! After all, the Olympic Games started in Greece.
Meteora
If you have the time, visit the monasteries of Meteora ~3.5 hours from Athens. These 11th century monasteries sit perched atop breathtaking rock formations. These monasteries make up the second most important monastic community in Greece, after Mount Athos in Halkidiki.
Stoa of Attalos
~138 BC, these ruins sit in the Agora beneath the Acropolis.
Areopagus
Climb this rock and stand where Apostle Paul stood over two thousand years ago to preach about One God to the Pagan Greeks. Surreal experience you won't forget!
Temple Of Poseidon
Located in Cape Sounio, if you make the trip down the coast (~1hr from Athens center), you can have lunch at the Cape Sounio Greco Hotel.
