We met in passing at SMU Law, and then officially in the fall of 2015 when Tye came to a party at my house with a mutual friend. Love at first sight is a stretch, but he certainly made a lasting impression when he snuck into my bathroom, threw a bath bomb in the tub and enjoyed a hot (pink, glittery) mid-party bath. Yes, the house was still full of guests. Yes, he was essentially a stranger to me. Who could forget that guy? We later started hanging out in the same friend group and became close friends. I went on a trip with a girlfriend in August of 2016 and, as we were texting the whole time and missing each other in a less platonic way, made plans to spend the day together the day after I got home, on August 20. Horrified by the state of Tye’s fridge, we went grocery shopping at Central Market, then to Uchi happy hour on a whim for the first of many future sushi dates, to a movie at Alamo Drafthouse with some friends, and then watched another movie (Spring Breakers - important detail?) at Tye’s apartment. That perfect day encapsulated what our relationship would become - the fancy, the mundane, exciting plans with friends or low-key nights in - and how even grocery shopping is the time of our lives as long as we’re together. From that day on…the rest is history!
Having gone from 0 to 100 over the course of a single day in 2016, we took our sweet time getting to the next step, despite constantly talking about it from almost the beginning! France is my favorite place in the world and holds a very special place in my heart. We’d talked about going together for years before it was finally possible with lifted COVID restrictions. I planned the whole (very full!) itinerary, leaving very little room for Tye to sneak in additional activities. He mentioned that he’d found a “champagne tasting” that looked fun on Sunday night after our arrival in Paris on Saturday, and I had a pretty good idea of what might be coming given the vagueness of the idea and that this was his only contribution to the itinerary. Ha! But I never could’ve imagined the perfectly elaborate execution: blindfolded and led up to a rooftop overlooking the Seine and Eiffel Tower at sunset, with one of our favorite songs playing, flowers, candles, and a neon “Will you marry me?” sign, Tye asked me the easiest question I’ve ever heard. And true to his word, there was champagne! (There were also McDonald’s French fries. That’s a different story, but in our defense, it was late, it was convenient, and everything else was closed. McD’s in our formalwear pretty much runs the gamut of our relationship.)
We have dreamed of sharing this day with all the people we love most for years, and can’t believe the time has finally come. It means the world to have you celebrating with us. Much like the post-proposal ritzy McDonald’s date, we’ve planned a wedding day that satisfies both sides of our personalities - a formal, traditional ceremony at Perkins Chapel, followed by a relaxed, somewhat atypical reception at Bowlounge. We hope you will come ready to let loose with us and have lots of FUN! We can’t wait to see you!
