Travel Note

Which airport should I fly into?

John and Taylor recommend that guests fly into Fort Lauderdale International and not Miami International. MIA international airport is just the worst most of the time, and it takes about an hour and a half just to get out of there when you arrive, especially if you are renting a car. Fort Lauderdale International is more user friendly. It is not that far north than Miami, may 20 miles or so.

Hotel

Islander Resort

82100 Overseas Highway
Islamorada, FL 33036
 (305) 664-2031

This is an amazing resort with awesome beach and pool areas. It is also pet friendly. The Islander is very popular, so we suggest calling them to see if they have some rooms available. They might book up quickly for this season. It is also super close to CR.

Hotel

Cheeca Lodge & Spa

81801 Overseas Highway
Islamorada, FL 33036
 (305) 664-4651

Cheeca Lodge is a 5 star resort and spa. It is an expansive property, and you have a great private beach, pools, golfing, tennis, kids club, spa, and several restaurants. There are lots of options, all with various price ranges.

Hotel

Islander Bayside Townhomes

81450 Overseas Highway
Islamorada, FL 33036
 (305) 664-0082

This is a great option that is bayside, meaning you get the sunsets of the Florida Keys. It is not next door from the Caribbean Resort, so it would be best for those who are driving down or renting a car.

Hotel

The Sunset Inn - Islamorada

82200 Overseas Highway
Islamorada, FL 33036
 (305) 664-3454

We love this inn! It is a retro boutique hotel with a pool and is right on US1. There are not a lot of onsite amenities, but you are right in the heart of Islamorada.

Hotel

Key Lantern Motel

82150 Overseas Highway
Islamorada, FL 33036
 (305) 664-8709

A favorite of John's for decades! The budget option for those looking for a place to just lay their head at night... Nothing fancy, just clean, friendly and laid back. For the person always on the go and needs a place to sleep, clean up and relax, you have found the place.

Hotel

Amara Cay Resort

80001 Overseas Highway
Islamorada, FL 33036
 (305) 664-0073

From the resort's website: "Amara Cay Resort is anchored in the laid-back style and carefree atmosphere that makes Islamorada the Sport Fishing Capital of the World. Reflecting the easy tranquility of the Upper Keys, Amara Cay Resort seamlessly blends recreation with relaxation. Hammocks dot the sandy shoreline, palm trees sway in the breeze and a shimmering oceanfront pool beckons early risers. It's no wonder Amara Cay was named the winner of the 2015 Sandi Design award for Design Excellence Hospitality by the International Interior Design Association, which recognized our expert balance of relaxed atmosphere and luxurious style."

Hotel

Courtyard by Marriott Key Largo

99751 Overseas Highway
Key Largo, FL 33037

This is a great option if you are driving down from Palm Beach County, Broward County, or Miami Dade County...or renting a car.

Hotel

Key Largo Bay Marriott Beach Resort

Key Largo, FL 33037
 (305) 453-0000
