Georgia Sea Turtle Center is a nature center and rescue and rehabilitation facility for sea turtles on Jekyll Island, Georgia, United States, that was founded in 2007. The Center features interactive exhibits and patient viewing areas.
The waters off of Georgia’s Jekyll Island are teeming with pods of bottlenose dolphins and this boat tour helps you find them. Board your cruise and set your sights on the playful creatures out in the Atlantic. Cruise through coastal waterways, salt marshes, and past wild beaches in search of dolphins as well as other wildlife like manatees, sea turtles, and sea birds.
In 1733, General James Oglethorpe named Jekyll Island in honor of Sir Joseph Jekyll, his friend and financier from England. In the late 1800s, Jekyll Island became an exclusive hunting club for families with names like Rockefeller, Morgan, Vanderbilt, Pulitzer, and Baker. The once private retreat is now part of The Jekyll Island Club National Historic Landmark District, one of the largest preservation projects in the southeast. In 1947, the Governor and the Georgia state legislature established Jekyll Island as a State Park. Today, the island is a special sanctuary for each of us – and the Jekyll Island Authority is proud to share our island’s history.
Have a tour of the Historic District on Jekyll Island in a beautiful horse-drawn carriage or a romantic private carriage ride. Perhaps you would enjoy a trail ride on the beach.
