Travel Note
Our venue, the Royal Geographical Society, is located at 50 Sussex Drive, where the Rideau and Ottawa rivers meet, next to the French embassy. Parking at the venue is limited, and will be reserved for those with accessibility needs. We strongly recommend taking a taxi if possible. Blue Line taxi has a user-friendly app that can be used on the spot or with pre-booking. There is also street parking available nearby on Stanley Ave., John St., and Alexander St. We recommend hotels in the Byward Market in Ottawa or in Hull, across the bridge in Gatineau. The venue is very close to the bridge between the two cities/provinces and for those looking to stay within a budget, Hull hotels will likely be more cost-effective. French is not a requirement! For those travelling from out of town, both the airport and the train station are connected to Ottawa's metro, the O-Train. The Via Rail train station is closer to downtown, whereas the airport is located south of the city in the suburbs. A taxi from the train station to Byward Market is ~$20, and ~$50 from the airport. Hull is an extra $10-15, depending how far into Gatineau you go. Ottawa is a safe and welcoming city with lots to do. Our favourite places include the National Arts Centre, the National Gallery, and the Rideau Canal, all nearby in the downtown core. May 8 is the start of the Tulip Festival here in Ottawa- visit Major's Hill Park next to Byward Market to take in some of the vibrant display!
