Happily Ever After, Insha’Allah

"And one of His signs is that He created for you spouses from among yourselves so that you may find comfort in them. And He has placed between you compassion and mercy. Surely in this are signs for people who reflect. (Quran 30:21) "

Who would've thought a Dominican Muslim boy from the Bronx and a Bangladeshi Muslim girl from Queens would fall in love --- right when one of us decided to move across the country? (Not a regular New York love story) But as we learned, love and Allah's plan has a funny way of making the impossible, possible. "They plan, and Allah plans. And Allah is the best of planners (Quran 8:30)". It all started in New York, through a mutual friend who ended up being the unintentional matchmaker (shout out Adalyssa), who is Tayaba's best friend from the 7th grade, and she also went to the same college as Musa! Musa's humor and big heart first caught Tayaba's attention. Musa will tell you he knew she was the one when he first saw her and that he won her over with his jokes. Tayaba will tell you it was really his patience, faith, generosity and the way he made her laugh after a long day. Just as their connection had started, Tayaba moved to Arizona. 3 years of long distance has been their entire relationship. Most people would have let the distance win-- but not them. You know what they say, distance makes the heart grow fonder. They turned it into a love story for the ages: Facetime dates during Eid, shipping each other surprise gifts, and debating who makes the better biryani. In between all of that, was a lot of prayer, a lot of resilience, and full faith in the Almighty. All Praise is due to Allah (SWT). Now, here they are -- two cultures, two families, and two hearts joining as one. From the Bronx to Queens to Arizona and beyond. They are proof, that when love is written for you, no distance, time zone, or obstacles can stop it. Please remember us is your du'as (prayers), that Allah (SWT) blesses this union with barakah, love and steadfastness upon his path.

¿Quién hubiera pensado que un chico musulmán dominicano del Bronx y una chica musulmana bangladesí de Queens se enamorarían justo cuando uno de nosotros decidió mudarse al otro lado del país? (No es una historia de amor típica de Nueva York). Pero como aprendimos, el amor y el plan de Alá tienen una curiosa forma de hacer posible lo imposible. "Ellos planean, y Alá planea. Y Alá es el mejor de los planificadores (Corán 8:30)". Todo empezó en Nueva York, gracias a una amiga en común que resultó ser la casamentera involuntaria (¡un saludo a Adalyssa!), la mejor amiga de Tayaba desde séptimo grado, ¡y además estudió en la misma universidad que Musa! El humor y el gran corazón de Musa llamaron la atención de Tayaba. Musa te dirá que supo que era la indicada desde el primer momento y que la conquistó con sus chistes. Tayaba te dirá que fue en realidad su paciencia, fe, generosidad y la forma en que la hizo reír después de un largo día. Justo cuando su conexión había comenzado, Tayaba se mudó a Arizona. Tres años de larga distancia han sido toda su relación. La mayoría habría dejado que la distancia ganara, pero ellos no. En cambio, la convirtieron en una historia de amor para la historia: citas por videollamada durante el Eid, enviarse regalos sorpresa y debatir quién preparaba el mejor biryani. Entre todo eso, hubo mucha oración, mucha resiliencia y una fe plena en el Todopoderoso. Alabado sea Alá. Ahora, aquí están: dos culturas, dos familias y dos corazones unidos en uno. Desde el Bronx hasta Queens, Arizona y más allá. Son la prueba de que cuando el amor está escrito para ti, ninguna distancia, zona horaria ni obstáculo puede detenerlo. Por favor, recuérdennos como sus súplicas (oraciones), que Alá (SWT) bendiga esta unión con barakah, amor y firmeza en su camino.
