What to Do in PEI

We know a number of our guests are travelling from out of town, and we can't wait to share our beloved Island with you. Here are some of our favourite places to go and things to do in PEI, as well as a few travel tips and tricks.

Flight

Options for flying into PEI

For guests travelling by airplane, you'll likely be arriving through the Charlottetown airport. However, due to our small nature, flight options into PEI can be a bit limited and sometimes expensive. If you're being budget conscious and don't mind travelling a bit from the airport you're flying into, some other Maritime airport options include Moncton (~2hr drive), Fredericton or Saint John (both ~3.5hr drive), or Halifax (~3hr drive). As it is the biggest Maritime airport, Halifax typically has the cheapest flight options from other major Canadian cities. But be aware that the Confederation Bridge has a $52 bridge toll fee to get off the Island, so factor that into your spending when planning out trips back and forth to other airports. If you're flying directly into Charlottetown, there are various car rental options directly accessible from the baggage claim area of the airport. If you aren't renting a car, taxis or a Kari ride are your best options for getting where you need to go (public transportation in Charlottetown is limited). We don't have Uber here, but PEI's version of that is "Kari." You can find it in the app store for both Android and Apple devices (look for the purple logo).

Travel Note

Places to Eat: Richard's Fresh Seafood

Best known for their incredible lobster rolls! There are a few locations, but the OG spot is at the Covehead Wharf (inside the National Park beaches on the north shore). To get by without buying a park pass, just tell the folks at the entrance booth that you're just eating at Richard's and park at the wharf! Hot tip: the lineup can sometimes be long on busy days - but the wait is worth it!

Travel Note

Things to Do: Blooming Point Beach

Taya and Vinod's favourite beach. It has all the charm and aesthetics of the north shore dune beaches without the cost and rules of Provincial Park beaches. Follow the dirt road off the MacDonald Road and you'll find your way. There's a large parking lot a ways back from the dunes, then just a short walk to get to the other side of the dunes. Bonfires at Blooming Point are a PEI summer night must!

Travel Note

Places to Eat: Sea Rocket Oyster House

One of our favourite places to eat. It's right on the corner of Queen St and Victoria Row, so very much in the ~quintessentially Charlottetown~ area of town. Lots of seafood options and great cocktails. Taya recommends their espresso martini!
