Wedding Weekend Gatherings, Which events can I attend?

Answer

Our wedding weekend includes a few different gatherings. Some moments will be small family ceremonies, while others are open celebrations with our wider community. Friday Blanket Ceremony & Saturday Lakeside Wedding Ceremony These ceremonies will be small and intimate with close family and the wedding party. Saturday Reception at the Whirlgig All invited guests are warmly welcomed to join us for an evening of food, music, and dancing as we celebrate together.

Friday Blanket Ceremony (private event)
Traditional or culturally inspired attire is welcome. Ribbon skirts, beadwork, and meaningful cultural clothing are encouraged. Saturday Reception
Casual to semi-formal. Wear something comfortable that you can dance in! Sunday Lake Day
Casual. Bring swimwear if you'd like to enjoy the water.

What should I know about Lake Superior weather?

Answer

Weather near Lake Superior can change quickly, even in August. While the days can be warm and beautiful, evenings near the lake often cool down. We recommend bringing: • A light jacket or sweater • Comfortable shoes for outdoor areas • Layers for changing temperatures Even if the day is sunny, it can become breezy near the water once the sun begins to set.

Can we take photos during the ceremonies - 1. Blanket Ceremony and 2. Wedding Ceremony?

We kindly ask guests to be present during the ceremonies and allow our photographer to capture the moments. Photos are welcome during the reception.

What is a Blanket Ceremony?

Answer

A Blanket Ceremony is a meaningful tradition amongst Tribal Communities, and every nation is different. As an Anishinaabe kwe, this is a sacred occasion that symbolizes the joining of two lives and two families. During the ceremony, blankets are used to represent the transition from two separate lives into one shared journey. Near the water and to have a moment of reflection, support from family, and honor the responsibilities and care that come with marriage. Which, for Eric and me, we have had a lot of practice. For us, this ceremony is a way to honor our culture, our families, and the path we are beginning together. This ceremony will be a small and intimate gathering for close family and our wedding party.

Wedding Ceremony, is alcohol being served?

Answer

Yes. Alcohol will be available during the Saturday reception at the Whirlgig. We will be serving a selection of drinks during cocktail hour and throughout the evening celebration. We encourage everyone to celebrate responsibly and arrange safe transportation if needed.
