We met while we were both working at Goodfello’s in 2014. The first time I saw Tanner, I asked who he was, immediately intrigued by his charm and sense of humor. About a year later, I finally asked Tanner to hangout, on my birthday. I said it so quickly, and ran out the door, that I didn’t give him a way to contact me, or an address. Over the next two months we would talk everyday. Finally, on July 4th I wanted to go to a concert in Chicago. Tanner played into my crazy idea, and we left late Friday night after work. We hung out in Chicago all day Saturday, and drove straight home Saturday night, to be at work all day Sunday. After that we became insepritable and became official on July 17th 2015.
I never wanted to get married, it was soon after meeting Tanner that I realized he was different, and the harder I fell in love with him, the more I realized I wanted to marry this man. Tanner was going to propose in November at light up night in Pittsburgh, but when he told Layla that, she insisted on being there, so he waited. Layla knew about the ring and proposal for a long time, and kept it a secret! On December 19th we had tickets to the largest indoor light display called Lumaze. I was SO excited to go. Christmas, and Christmas lights, are my absolute favorite. When we walked in, he asked my Dad, Mom, and brother permission. They started crying and he was afraid they were going to blow it. He was smart not asking sooner, they can’t keep a secret! In the middle of admiring the beautiful lights, Tanner, Layla, and I sat down for a picture. Apparently, Tanner gave the signal for someone to record. We took the picture, and when I stood up, Layla tapped me on the back and said, “Daddy has a question for you!” I turned around and there he was on one knee. I dropped everything I had in my hands and started sobbing. Of course I said yes! It was the most beautiful proposal in the most magical, and beautiful place. I was completly surprised. I don’t know how he pulled it off, but I couldn’t have imagined anything better.
