YES, you need a passport if you are over 16 years of age! For kids, a U.S. citizen under the age of 16 will be able to present either an original, notarized, or certified copy of his or her birth certificate, a Consular Report of Birth Abroad issues by DOS, or Certificate of Naturalization issued by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. (Baptismal papers and hospital certificates of birth are not acceptable. Voter registration cards or Social Security cards are not considered proof of citizenship). Reminder: If your child has a different last name than you, you will need to bring an official supporting document to help explain why the names are different. The supporting document must be the original, or a notarized copy. Some examples of valid supporting documents include state, county, or province-issued marriage license, divorce decree, government-issued name change document, or official adoption paper. PLEASE NOTE, we do highly suggest getting a passport for your child under 16 regardless incase of an emergency.
