Back in February 2023, Taylor and Gabriel met in the exotic and slightly intimidating world of “Hinge”—because what could possibly go wrong when you let the internet influence your choice of a significant other? For those unfamiliar, “Hinge” is an online dating app. After a couple of days of chit chatting online, they decided to meet in person. The date was set: a weeknight outing for drinks at a Tiki Bar. A little Mai Tai, a little Piña Colada—why not? *** What does Gabriel remember most about meeting Taylor? “I was immediately smitten by her beautiful, dark curly hair, and once we started talking, it only got better. She was so smart, articulate and funny, yet also such an active listener. She made me feel so comfortable—as if we had known each other for years. Also, she had beautiful lips.” What does Taylor remember most about meeting Gabriel? “Gabe’s kind eyes and smile caught my eye right away, especially when he threw his head back and laughed. They say, ‘It takes one to know one,’ so I know a fellow talker (and listener) when I hear one! We covered every topic imaginable—from our mutual dream travel destination, Japan, to favorite recipes, to music. By the time the conversation turned to his obvious love for his nieces, I was certain he was one to keep around.” *** After they finished their first drinks—and given how well the date was going—Gabriel suggested a cheeky second round. Taylor excused herself to the bathroom, at which point a glance in the mirror confirmed her fears were coming true. She was experiencing a mild allergic reaction to something in her fruity tropical drink, which caused her lips to swell. She had a tough choice to make: continue the date even though she was mid-allergic reaction, or end the date early and risk losing, perhaps forever, the spark she had just felt with Gabriel. She decided to stay and risk her health. Of course, Gabriel, having never met Taylor before, had no idea she was experiencing an allergic reaction nor that her lips were swelling. He was just happy to spend as much time with her as possible—and that feeling hasn’t left him ever since. And now, here we are, eagerly anticipating August 2026 to celebrate with all of you!
