It was his first date on match.com and her last. He wore a flannel shirt and combed his hair, she wore an oversized orange sweater and dry shampoo. He was happy that she didn’t have an Adam’s apple; and she that he looked like (and even better than!) his photos. Four hours later, over a couple beers and dry burgers, they talked about their childhood, families, politics, religion, friends, and jobs. Friends had told them “it’s hard until its not” and just like that it was an easy decision to meet for a second date.
It is only fitting that while celebrating our new home together, Sean had to one-up the celebration and propose. It wasn’t planned - no one who knows us is very surprised by that- but it was perfect. In our yard, surrounded by friends, family, and in front of our beer pong table, Sean changed from his t-shirt into a Syracuse polo and surprised Tami by dropping down to one knee. I don’t know who was sobbing harder, Tami or her grandmother.
