It was the summer of 2012. We were both working in a warehouse (yeah, not really the stuff that movies are made of!). Dave spent most of the summer admiring Steph from afar but was too shy (or, as he says, too cool) to talk to her for at least 2 months. Steph would try to smile at Dave and he would awkwardly look down and walk away in the other direction. Finally, Steph broke the ice first by asking Dave what his problem was. From that point on, Dave knew he shouldn't mess with Steph. It only took Dave another two months to ask Steph out. He waited until she conveniently moved an hour away from him back to London for school before he finally asked her. But, at least he asked! And, after nearly 6 years of long distance (because Steph just had to stay in school forever), a cozy little home that is all theirs, and one massive but cute fur baby later, they are ready for an entire lifetime together!
It was early in the morning on a cold, winter day, right before Christmas. We were walking Kylo along the Lakeshore in Toronto. We were both sitting on a log and watching Kylo play in the water. The sun was slowly rising. Dave turned to Steph and started going down on one knee, pulling a little shiny case out of his pocket. Steph was in shock because she never thought this day would actually come. But Dave barely had a chance to ask THE question when Steph jumped and said "YES, FINALLY!" Best Christmas ever!
Yes! We did get married in a simple civil ceremony on August 1, 2019 in front of a small group of close friends and family. The day before, we had just closed on our condo and became homeowners! In my (Steph) family, it's a tradition to get married before officially moving in together. We wanted to honour that tradition and we are absolutely glad we did. It has been a joy and blessing to have started the next chapter of living together as partners in life. And now, we get to marry each other twice!
