A long standing event at the Renaissance Faire is trinket trading. This is where you bring trinkets and trade them with other faire goers or shop owners. During Cocktail hour and the reception we invite you to bring along trinkets and participate in a fun renaissance faire tradition and trinket trade with other guests and the bridal party. A trinket is a small treasure. It can be anything liken to a friendship bracelet, an old ring, a broach, pin, a marble, shiny stones, polished gems, crocheted flower, butterfly, magnets, a thimble, figurine, or anything similar. It will fit nicely in the center of your palm and is unseen when the hand is closed. There will be a basket of trinkets (if you forget to bring yours) that you can use to join in the fun. The bride and groom have selected a special trinket. If you are the person holding this trinket at the end of the evening, they will have a special gift for you!
To keep with the time period of the wedding & in lieu of the "dollar dance" we will have a "dollar duel". Instead of placing a dollar in a basket to dance with the bride or groom, exchange your dollar for a token. Add your name to the token and bestow your favor on the groom or the challenger by placing your token in their basket. Feeling adventurous? During cocktail hour you have the opportunity to sign up to sword fight the groom. Don't worry it isn't a fight to the death. The duel ends when a swordsman successfully has a touch below the head and above the waist. All successful challengers will receive a wooden rose to give to their lady/man in waiting. Want to get in on the fun, but not comfortable wielding a sword? You can bestow your favor to your favorite fighter. At the end of all the duels a token will be drawn from the basket of whichever fighter won the most duels (the groom or the challengers collectively) and the person drawn will receive a gift from the bride and groom.
While we are having pictures taken there are many great areas to enjoy nature at the park. You can drive through the areas or hike on a trail before heading over to cocktail hour at the reception.
