On June 17, 2022, at Cancun Cantina, Bennett arrived simply hoping to enjoy a few drinks with friends in honor of his friend's 21st birthday. What he didn’t anticipate was meeting someone who would change his life forever. That night, amidst spilled beers, half-drunken conversations, and multiple rides on a mechanical bull together, he met Sydney — the stunning, witty, and enchanting woman who would become his very best friend. With a smile that made him pay attention and a spirit that matched (and often surpassed) his own, Sydney quickly became the highlight of the evening. Their first moments together were spent laughing, holding on for dear life atop a mechanical bull, and talking about everything under the sun — from sports and school to their shared love of dogs. When the night came to an end, Bennett wasn’t ready for the conversation to be over… and he didn’t have to be. Sydney gave him her phone number before he even had the chance to ask. What followed were weeks filled with ice cream runs, McDonald’s orders, awkward family introductions, and binge-watching Grey’s Anatomy. It took less than a month for Bennett to realize he had found the woman he wanted to spend forever with. Just a short time later, Sydney made him swear — on a miniature white Bible — that he would never break her heart. He made that promise wholeheartedly. As months turned into years and starting new jobs and careers, Bennett and Sydney built a love marked by friendship, humor, and unwavering support through nursing school meltdowns and gentle reminders to “relax.” When their three-year anniversary approached, Bennett (with Sydney’s help picking out the ring, of course) planned a proposal on a cruise to Bermuda. Despite battling nerves — and a bout of sun poisoning — Bennett got down on one knee on a beach overlooking the ocean with our best friends.
