Andrew and Sydney met in college while they were studying at the University of Dubuque in Dubuque Iowa, however they don’t actually remember meeting. They believe they met in the fall of 2012, during Sydney’s freshman year, and Andrew’s sophomore year while they were in the university Concert Choir together. After being friends for a few years, sharing numerous classes together, involvement in Greek Life, and continuing on in Choir together, Andrew asked Sydney out on a date to see the Lego Movie in the spring of 2014. They continued dating through college, never missing an opportunity to see a movie together, hang out with their friends, and even traveled to Canada, Germany, and Austria while in college. Andrew and Sydney both graduated UD in 2016 with Marketing degrees, and Andrew also graduated with a degree in chemistry, and Sydney with a minor in communications. Post undergrad, they both moved to central Iowa, Andrew to Ames, and Sydney to West Des Moines, and they finally moved in together in the winter of 2017. They shared a 690 square foot apartment in downtown Des Moines during quarantine of 2020, binging movies, and perfecting their favorite cocktails, and trying new recipes at home. They moved to Waukee in December of 2020, and adopted Daisy (AKA Doodle) from a cat cafe in West Des Moines in January. They are completely and utterly obsessed with her, and she is the most spoiled ball of fur you'll ever meet. Andrew currently works for Tradebe as a Technical Service Field Chemist for over a year, and Sydney has been with Wells Fargo for 4+ years, currently as a Work Director within Home Mortgage. They are both so incredibly excited to be celebrating their wedding with you all, and thank everyone for making the trip to Des Moines to be with us!
Andrew planned the most amazing surprise engagement for Sydney after celebrating their 7 year dating anniversary the Thursday prior. Both Andrew and Sydney took a half day off of work on that Friday, and Andrew brought home the most extravagant floral arrangement Sydney had ever seen. The whole afternoon and into the evening, Sydney was curious if Andrew would propose, as her friends Triny and Delanie had speculated that he may propose to mark the big anniversary. Throughout dinner, Andrew and Sydney shared a “cheers” with their drinks for each year they had been together, but by the time they got to #7, Andrew suggested saving that one for later. Sydney’s eyes lit up, wondering what Andrew had up his sleeve. They had plans the next afternoon at the Botanical Gardens with Triny and Delanie and their spouses, Cody and Grant,. Dinner and dessert passed, and they headed home, to watch one of their favorite shows, Futurama together. “Cheers” #7 passed without a shiny ring, and the next morning Sydney texted Triny and Delanie that their suspicions were off, and Andrew hadn’t proposed. At the Botanical Gardens the group explored, and headed into the greenhouse to escape the heat. In the back of the greenhouse was the perfect spot to stop and take some couples pictures. First went Triny and Cody, then Grant and Delanie. Last up, Andrew and Sydney. They decided on a back to back photo, and when Sydney turned around, Andrew was down on one knee, with the most perfect solitaire diamond engagement ring propped up in his hands! Sydney screamed “oh my god!” and then an astounding “YES!” to answer Andrew’s “Sydney, Will you marry me?” Their friends were in on the secret engagement the whole time, they ! The excitement continued, and Blair joined in on the fun at a mini engagement party at the Republic on Grand rooftop bar overlooking the East Village.
