Love at first sight is a ridiculous saying, until it happens to you. I walked into church one Sunday morning and saw a new guy in the band playing bass. I knew nothing of him which is unusual because I am really good friends and family with some of the band members. You think one of them would have said something. I had to find out who this guy was. Little did I know that his parents were sitting behind me in church. I found out that he lived right down the street from the church. It took a while before I really got to know him. I was preoccupied with my ailing dog. I didn't feel like dating at the time. But then Dennis, my church dad, said he was starting up a young adult group at the church. We both went to this group and somewhat got to know each other. But still we both were dealing with a lot in our lives. My dog then passed away and I dealt with depression. But Dennis and Kelly were persistent. They kept telling us that we should date each other. It took a lot of pushing from Dennis and Kelly but finally I asked Marvin to go to a haunted house with many of my coworkers. I thought to myself if he can handle my insane coworkers, he can handle me. So we went out to the haunted house and I am sure he wasn't just scared of the haunts. But he stuck through. Our first date was on Halloween, where I apparently chose the weirdest most messed up movie to see. Not sure that was the best choice but oh well. He still called me after that. I didn't scare him off. We went on a few more dates. The big one was when we went to see The five guys named Moe. Where our friend Tommy was there and he joined us most of the night. Marvin asked me to be his girlfriend that night. I said yes.
My birthday was coming up and he apparently had the ring. He had been talking with my family about it. I said that for my birthday I wanted a Thanksgiving type dinner as that is the best time of year that we get to enjoy time with family and friends. But my birthday was in March. I invited a couple of friends and family. My mom kept inviting people and said to invite Marvin's parents. I kept saying no as I didn't want this to be a big thing, it was just a birthday dinner after all. Or so I thought. The morning of the party, Marvin left early for the farm before going to church. I did my typical Sunday morning and went to my mom's house before church where I was chastised by my sister for not doing my typical dress up for church. So we went to church and later back to my mom's house. Apparently Marvin brought his dress clothes and handed them off to Tami to put in her car without me knowing. My sister then asked if she could curl my hair. I love when my sister wants to experiment with my hair so of course I said yes. She then argued that I needed to wear a nicer shirt for the party. So Marvin brought me a nice shirt. You would think by this point I would catch on. Nope, clueless. So we enjoyed a nice dinner with everyone. I was still eating but talking to my cousin about the Museum of Death in New Orleans. I was really into the conversation. My mom said I needed to come take a picture with Marvin. I said I was still eating and we could take pictures later. My mom was so persistent about it that she ripped my plate from my hands. Still clueless, my sister dragged me through the dining room only to turn me around and go through the foyer instead. I then was looking for Marvin but didn't see him. I looked up when we got to the foyer and saw Marvin dressed up in a suit. He then got down on one knee and said, "The love of my life, will you marry me?". Of course I said yes. His mom had no idea so she was just as clueless as I was. She was just as excited as I was.
