Good on you for looking at the website to find out more information about the wedding (and saving us from receiving question messages constantly!) WHAT TO PACK: It will be chilly in San Gregorio, and temperatures will drop at night. It will be in the mid-low 60s F / ~18 C. We recommend bringing a light shawl or jacket to wear over your wedding outfit on Saturday evening, as well as warm clothing for the other days. We are having a pool party on Sunday, so pack your bathing suits! IF YOU'RE STAYING AT CAMP: Pack flip-flops for the showers, as well as your toiletries. The beds in the cabins do not have bedding, so pack a sheet or a sleeping bag and pillow. SMOKING: A reminder that we will be charged for each and every cigarette butt (or similar) left behind at the venue. Please dispose of these properly and do not leave them on the ground. If you're seen leaving them on the floor, you will be sent the bill!
Steve was placed in Zambia, Africa for his U.S. Peace Corps service as a Rural Education Development specialist, and shortly after, Caitlin started her service under the Community Health Improvement Project for the Peace Corps in Zambia. When the two met, they had instant chemistry and quickly became good friends. After a year of countless hitch-hikes across the country in the back of trucks getting to know each other, candle-lit dinners in their little mud huts, and nights spent laying under the Milky Way sharing their dreams, they decided that maybe this friendship could be something more. In fact, they even held a traditional Zambian wedding celebration with their community members and local families in Caitlin's village in 2013. In 2014, they left Zambia and made their way to 10 different countries on the African continent, before returning to the US and preparing for a move to South Korea. After 3 years spent in South Korea and traveling all over East and South East Asia, Caitlin and Steve made their way down to Australia. In 2019, Steve and Caitlin traveled back to the US and visited the wedding venue OVY Camp in San Gregorio, CA. They booked the venue for a 4-day wedding extravaganza for September 3-6th, 2021. Unfortunately, shortly after returning to their current home base in Adelaide, South Australia, the COVID-19 virus shut down borders and travel around the world. Caitlin and Steve had to make the decision to postpone their wedding until Sept 1-4th, 2023, with hopes the pandemic would be under control and they'd be able to attend their wedding- and have guests there, too! In 2021, Caitlin and Steve made a last-minute decision to get married on their originally booked wedding date and officially seal-the-deal on September 4th, 2021, but in Australia. Due to lock-down restrictions, they held a small ceremony (only being allowed up to 20 people to gather) in their friends backyard. True to fashion of always doing things differently, they held an "op-shop" wedding, meaning that their outfits, their guest's outfits, and decorations/glassware came from local thrift stores and second-hand trades! Friends and family joined via zoom from around the world, at various hours of their day/night, and celebrated the first "legal" marriage for Caitlin and Steve. FINALLY, they are returning to the US to get married with family and friends present to celebrate, but a one-day wedding just isn't going to cut it. Caitlin and Steve want to include everyone who has been a part of their love story and journey over the years and around the world, that's why this event is going to last from September 1st until September 4th, 2023. They want to spend time with everyone they love, and they want everyone who can make it- there!! We hope you join us from wherever you are in the world :)
