We're so glad you asked! Larb (laab) is a traditional Thai and Lao salad comprising ground meat (pork or chicken, or—in our house—oyster mushroom or seitan) with toasted rice powder, chili powder, shallots, lime, fish sauce, and mint. This iconic Thai dish enjoyed a cameo in Spider-Man: Homecoming for the same reasons that we're shouting it out here: it's delicious and sounds a lot like the English word "love." (Bonus: Spider-Man is Kae's favorite superhero.)
Wherever you like! Between Syracuse and the surrounding B&B country, you should have a variety of options that are a relatively quick drive away from Our Farm. UPDATE – At this point, many B&Bs will be booked, so we are recommending that folks look at two hotels in Syracuse. The Craftsman Inn is in the east, close to the venue: https://www.reservations.com/hotel/craftsman-inn-and-conference-center Embassy Suites by Hilton is downtown, close to the airport and lake: https://www.hilton.com/en/hotels/syrdwes-embassy-suites-syracuse Both seem nice, based on internet research and asking around. We don't really know! The bride and groom will be staying at an AirBnB near the venue. If you have any questions, please email Wythe.
Whatever you like! We are going to dress up, so suits/dresses are encouraged but not required. Note: we’re getting married in the summer, outdoors, so please dress accordingly. We’re wearing suit/dress, anyway, but perhaps you should bring some comfortable, keeping-it-cool clothes to change into, after the ceremony. UPDATE RE WEATHER – It's going to be hot. Very hot. We'll have fans going in the barn, but there is no A/C. We totally understand if you only dress up for the ceremony itself, or not at all. Either way, please stay hydrated!
UPDATE – We are very excited to announce that the fabulous and extremely talented Jenn De La Vega (@Randwiches) is catering our wedding. Before dinner, cheese and other snacks will be on offer, along with beverages. The dinner will be Thai-themed, featuring vegetables, mushrooms, chicken, and fish. There will be no shellfish served due to multiple guests' serious allergies. Jenn has done an amazing job creating several delicious dishes—including larb—that present authentic Thai flavors. We can't wait for you to dig in! And don’t worry about spice: while we love real-deal spicy food, we are keeping it low-key for the wedding. Most dishes have no spice, and one has mild spice. Of course, we will serve spicy sauce on the side for those of you who wish to join us in heating things up. For drinks, we’ll offer a range of beers and wines as well as non-alcoholic options (sodas and zero-ABV beers). If you have any questions or concerns about the food or drinks, please email Wythe. Specifically, we are confident that Jenn and her team can accommodate any allergy-related requests. (Note, we are not taking requests for food in general: you have to eat Thai food!)
The legendary dance-party-maestros Joo-Young Kim and Scott Neagle!
The Netherlands and France. We are hoping to visit some of Kae’s family outside of Paris, whom she hasn’t seen in a long time. (And Kae has never been to Europe.) Wythe spent time in the Netherlands for research but hasn’t been back in several years. We haven’t planned anything yet, however, because—
—Yes, we were going to say: we have to plan a second wedding for Kae’s family in Trat, Thailand. We’re hoping that can happen in 2024. Details to come.
Unfortunately, taking a vacation Upstate is probably not something Cha’Om would enjoy. He wishes you the best from Astoria.
I'm so glad you asked this weirdly specific question! We are strongly committed environmentalists. The tableware at the wedding (cups, plates, forks, spoons, knives) is sustainably sourced (mostly/fully compostable, depending on the type of composting process). Cans and bottles are recyclable. We are asking your help in placing all used tableware, cans, and bottles in the proper receptacles, as directed by the event staff, and to do so *only* when you are actually done. Feel free to hang onto cups that you are planning on refilling. Or bring your own cups and keep track of them! The point is, we don’t want to generate a ton of waste or trash the beautiful farm. Thanks in advance for doing your part. (And, yes, Wythe *will* go Captain Planet and start picking up cups off the ground. Please help keep him in getting-married mode!)
