How We Met

The Greatest French-American Collaboration Since Yorktown

Sara and Brian met the old-fashioned way--through a dating app ("The League"). Sara hugged a koala, Brian doesn't remember what his profile picture looked like. On their first date, Sara feigned interest in the law while drinking tea. On their second date, Sara feigned interest in weird beer (even Brian didn't like it), baseball, Mexican food, and jazz while eating Mexican food, listening to jazz, and not actually hearing Brian’s detailed baseball explanation. On their third date, Brian feigned interest in back-end software engineering. Since then, Brian and Sara have showed legitimate interest in each other in every conceivable way.

Sara's Big Mistake

April 7, 2019

One Sunday morning in their old San Francisco apartment, Brian proposed to Sara in a very proper and formal way. He got down on one knee and presented Sara with the traditional small stuffed pony and children's book. Sara said yes. Then, Brian and Sara made sure the pony was safely out of reach of their rambunctious Samoyed Mookie. They sat on the couch with Mookie and read the book before going to the French Laundry for lunch (without Mookie). Since then, Mookie wakes Brian and Sara up early every morning in retaliation for his exclusion from the French Laundry lunch.

Sara and Brian Sign Some Paperwork

August 19, 2020

The officiant (Sarah) brought a delicious chocolate cake and her puppy Taki. The witness (Jo) brought wine, cheese, and salsa imported all the way from Michigan—Sara’s favorite place to fly into when she wants to go to Cleveland to watch basketball. While Mookie and Taki played inside to their hearts’ content—saving their already-fluffy lungs from the ash-filed San Francisco summer evening—the humans ate homemade pulled pork sandwiches and watched a show about fake people selling real property in LA. Before the show and before the pork, but during playtime, the humans filled out a form to tell the State of California that Sara and Brian love each other very much and want to be together forever. The form was placed in a Mookie-safe drawer and mailed to the appropriate bureaucrat the next evening. We trust that mail was delivered because mail should be delivered. We look forward to celebrating with you September 18, 2021!
