Said to be the inspiration for Walt Disney's Main Street USA in Disney Land (look it up), Old Town Square is the center of the action in Old Town Fort Collins and where we spend a lot of our free time. On any given weekend, you may find musicians on stage, street art vendors, food carts and more surrounding the fountains of Old Town Square. Some of our favorite bars, restaurants, and shops surround the square, and it serves as a great jumping off point to explore the rest of historic Old Town Fort Collins.
An iconic FoCo landmark, this is a challenging yet rewarding hike to the top of Horsetooth Rock that should take about 3 hours total. We consider it a somewhat intermediate challenge so recommend sneakers, water and snacks.
Same trailhead as Horsetooth Rock but a shorter, flatter hike. Closer to 1.5-2hr, this loop trail will take you along some great views and right past Horsetooth Falls waterfall. Beginner hike but still recommend sneakers and water.
This german-inspired brewery is one of our favorites in town. Right next to Colorado State University campus which is worth a walkthrough on its own, Prost has some of the best german beers you can find this side of the Atlantic. Try the dunkelweiss...
Another one of favorite breweries in FoCo. Solid beer selection, great staff, and a few TVs if you are trying to catch a game. Great location right downtown and you can bring in your own food from nearby.
Inside nearby Lory State Park, Arthur's Rock is a similar hike to Horsetooth Rock but a slightly shorter round trip. Great views, but a bit more straight up and down.
A short drive up the Poudre Canyon, Picnic Rock is one of our favorite quick trips for a little fresh air. Bring some food, a blanket, a swimsuit or a tube! Great place to splash around for a little to cool off.
A unique cafe on the outside of Old Town with great espresso drinks and lunch options.
The quintessential Fort Collins Brewery experience. Home of Fat Tire and Voodoo Ranger IPA, New Belgium's lawn is an ideal spot for a beer on sunny afternoon.
About 1 hour from Fort Collins, Rocky Mountain National Park is one of the most beautiful places in Colorado. We try to visit the park at least 3 times a year in different seasons, and there really isn't a bad time to go. The drives to and through the park are an activity on their own. If you want to enter the park, make sure to make a reservation at the link provided. If not, nearby Estes Park is a quaint mountain town at the entrance to the park that has plenty of great shops and restaurants.
Just north of Old Town FOCO, the white water park is a great spot to sit on the rocks and dip your feet in the Poudre river. The park is a calm and fun place to stay cool, including opportunities to jump into the white water streams and get carried by the river. We spend a lot of our summer saturday afternoons here.
