Mel's version: When I took up my friend's offer to tag along to the Firefly Music Festival in 2021, I was expecting "3 days of peace and music", or something like that. But when I arrived and met the guy in the straw tiki hat with the great playlist and even greater smile, a spark was lit that I couldn't ignore. After four days of fist bumping to our favorite songs, cleaning up on the spikeball court, and pretending like we weren't staring at each other, I couldn't believe that I had to say goodbye to this incredible guy. So a few weeks later, when "Firefly Guy" told me he had decided to move up to Boston, my heart was soaring! He swore it was for the "great food scene", which I obviously saw right through, but I didn't mind. I knew that Nick had felt what I had at Firefly: a connection that couldn't be ignored, that deserves a chance to grow, and that is worth a leap of faith. Nick's move to Boston was the big bold and beautiful romantic gesture that sealed the deal to my heart! After an amazing year in Boston, Nick and I were ready to move in together. Continuing our "big bold gesture" motif, we decided to fulfill a life-long dream and couple this move-in together with a move to Colorado together. Two cross-country roadtrips, one birthday spent on the road, and many, many flights of stairs later, we were settled in Fort Collins, Colorado. These last few years of the mountain lifestyle have brought us closer together than I ever could have imagined. While I knew Nick was the person I'd spend my life with, he still managed to surprise me when he popped the question last March while we were visiting Chicago for St. Patrick's Day. Of course I said yes (after saying "are you serious?" around 10 times), and it's pretty much felt like happily ever after ever since! P.S. Nick has now admitted that his move to Boston was definitely not for the food scene ;) Nick's version: Well we met in a Walmart parking lot, so that's pretty romantic. Firefly, something about camelbacks, constellations, hmmmmm...Busch Lite? Pogo sticks? My playlists rock? Then we were snapchatting and texting, and then I surprised Mel by moving to Boston and then we were in Boston and Mel asked me out and yeah the rest is history.
