We have listed some boat ramps and beaches below. Riggins is well known for its whitewater rafting adventures and salmon and steelhead fishing. The Salmon River is normally at flood stage in June and we don't recommend rafting or tubing at high water. Please take caution and hire an outfitter to safely enjoy whitewater rafting or boat fishing during your visit. Always wear a life jacket while recreating in the Salmon River.
Some of the best pizza and sandwiches around. Our favorite is the Partridge Creek Pizza. Summerville's houses a steakhouse, an all ages pizza and sandwich house in the back, and Heavens Gate Brewery/Bar.
Another one of our favorite dinner or bar hangouts when visiting.
The Silver Dollar Bar in White Bird is now non-smoking! Friday night karaoke is suspended for now, but maybe they will bring it back by June. Or maybe this bar will be overrun with White Bird rodeo attendees.
We have never attended, but the Whitebird Rodeo is this same weekend, held just 7 miles away in Twin Bridges. Please don't skip our wedding for this on Saturday, but if you're in town Friday night, it could be good entertainment.
Approximately 9 miles north of the wedding venue, this is a scenic day-use site that features a nice swimming beach and shady, grassy picnic area along the Lower Salmon River.
Shorts Bar is the put-in for the classic Riggins whitewater rafting day trip. If you don't have your own equipment look for outfitters on this website: https://rigginsidaho.com/outdoor-recreation/#. This site also has a very large and beautiful beach with a large eddy if you're just looking to hang out and maybe take a dip in the water.
Take the Rapid River road off highway 95 just south of Riggins. In 2-3 miles, the road ends at a trailhead parking lot. This hike is generally open year round is and follows the rapid river. Trail conditions vary.
Take the Seven Devils Road west off Highway 95 just south of Riggins and go up, up, and up. Heavens Gate is a lookout at the top of Hell's Canyon. There are several hiking and backpacking trails that take off from here. Depending on how fast winter snowpack has melted, this road may or may not be accessible the whole distance in June. It normally opens late June and we suggest checking the website or calling the ranger ahead of time.
Lucile Boat Ramp is the standard take-out location for the classic Riggins whitewater rafting day trip.
If you're looking to visit two rivers in one trip, head towards Whitebird, take a left at the signs for Hammer Creek and Pittsburgh Landing, cross the Salmon River on a bridge, and go up and over the mountain range and drop down into the Snake River canyon. There is also a 6-mile hike to historic Kirkwood Ranch.
