Huntington First Church of the Nazarene is where it all began! We both grew up in the church together. We were in all the same Sunday school classes, church events, mission trips, and later youth group! We also went to the same middle school. Running in somewhat different friend groups previously, we became closer when we had homeroom together in high school. Bonding moments through conversations about faith started to grow our friendship. The summer before our junior year of high school, we became much closer. God used this time to grow an unbreakable bond, that He alone created. God took one of the most difficult situations in Sarah’s life and began a beautiful relationship with Matthew after it. He redeems even the most broken situations. Then came homecoming! A special night where Matthew realized he loved Sarah! (Sarah had been crushing on Matthew for years before this! Lol!) Matthew would often be left rushing home after a two-hour long conversation, leaning up against the hood of his car, on these wonderful nights after homecoming. Now it’s 4 and a half years later and we are getting married! Praise the Lord alone for this beautiful blessing of marriage!
Matthew wanted to find somewhere out in nature that was special to both him and Sarah where he could propose to her. Sarah had an idea Matthew might propose the next day, but her best friend Kate had her convinced it was not happening the next day. (Thank you Kate lol!) Matthew was texting back and forth with Kate, the photographer, and both families to get everything coordinated to go smoothly and surprise Sarah the next day. On the day of the engagement, they went to the movies and then to Chili's. Matthew asked Sarah to bring her bike and they took their bikes to Barboursville Park. They rode up the hill together on their bikes. This was a special place because years before when they first started "unofficially officially" dating, they had many conversations while taking hikes up the hill. When they got to the top, Matthew led Sarah to where a shaded but open field was. "Smile" by Uncle Kracker was playing on the playlist of "their songs." Sarah's heart started tingling at this point knowing what was happening at this point. He sat her down on a bench backwards to him and had written a letter to her on the special paper he always did. He told her to turn around and she walked over to him with tear-filled eyes. He led her to a picnic blanket with red roses spread out over it. Then he asked "Sarah Jo Stultz" to marry him. Suprise! She said yes! Sarah was joyful from the bottom of her heart, skipping around the field with the biggest SMILE ever! It was evening time and the sun rays were warming her. Pure bliss. They drove back to her home and surprised Sarah with his and her entire families there waiting in the driveway!
