"Top down, sunscreen on, radio tuned to a little Hawaiian music on a Maui morning: It's time to head out to Hana along the Hana Highway (Hwy. 36), a wiggle of a road that runs along Maui's northeastern shore. The drive takes at least 3 hours from Lahaina or Kihei -- but plan to take all day. Going to Hana is about the journey, not the destination." There isn't a metaphor more perfect for life and love than the Road to Hana. The day we went, well it couldn't have been more perfect. No, the sun was not shining. It was actually raining - all day. Most if not all tours had been canceled. Luckily, we rented a car which meant we had the road to ourselves for the most part. Waterfalls were raging through the beautiful rain forest as we made our way up the coast to the black sand beach. As we climbed the black volcanic rocks and stared out at the windex blue waters crashing against it, the rain stopped. We could help but think how truly blessed we are to experience this together. To think about our journey together as a couple and all the adventures we have been blessed to share. As we talked about our life together and our future, Zach got down on one knee. I joke that as Zach got down on one knee all I could think was but you dont have a ring. Which he did. But I had always thought I would know when it was going to happen as he wouldn't be able to go shopping for a ring without me knowing. Well he did. And he wasn't nervous as he snuck it in his backpack through security at the airport or as I riffled through the bag it was in during our first two days in Hawaii. So I was completely surprised.
