Joel and Meghan met on Bumble, an online dating platform, in 2020. They swiped right on each other sometime in mid-February and had their first date on February 28th, shortly before the first Covid quarantine. They were both worried that this would get in the way of them getting to know one another. Nonetheless, over the next 6 months, they made every effort to meet up with very non-conventional dates, i.e., LOTS of hikes, bonfires in the mountains, rafting in lakes, and hanging out at Joel's parents' property. One of Meghan's favorite dates was actually at Darrell and Cindy's property. The plan was to watch the sunset over the mountains, even though they both knew a storm was rolling in. Joel brought food, drinks, and blankets for the back of his truck. In order to avoid getting rained on Meghan decided to bring a tarp and bungee cords. When they got there it was already starting to rain so they started working on propping the tarp over the bed of his truck. They were able to situate it so they wouldn't get rained on but still had enough view to watch the storm as well as the sunset over the mountains. These were the kind of dates Joel and Meghan had to come up with all throughout Covid. They both say that dates like this were a big part of forming their relationship. It showed them that they could both improvise and have fun with one another no matter what they were doing. Although some might view the height of the pandemic as the worst time to start a relationship, there's no doubt to Joel and Meghan that it was all in God's perfect timing.
