Megan and I go all the way back to 5th grade. We've always shared a mutual love for animals (particularly cats, dogs, and horses) and emo music. There are few people on this earth that I get along with so effortlessly or can talk on the phone with for an hour, (and make it feel like 5 minutes) but Megan is that person. She is my personal skincare guru and therapist, as well as one of the most rationally-thinking humans I know. I ALWAYS go to Megan for advice on anything. During our long friendship we've attended plenty of concerts together and have been there for each other through all of life's transitions. One of my all-time favorite memories involves Megan. We stumbled upon a rare brood of albino cicadas in the woods of Fenelton in our youth. Strangely, we never became famous for it.

Suzanne's fiance and Nate are best friends, so we have no choice but to coexist peacefully.... KIDDING. I love Suzanne a lot! Suzanne is always the first friend I call to participate in the odd activities I want to do- like Saturday trips to find discount furniture at the resale store, for example. I have to be careful taking Suz shopping because if it's an item less than $10 it's "basically free" (her words) & after a while all those $10 items add up and your Saturday tab is definitely NOT free! We share a mutual love for old houses and are 2 seconds away from buying a Victorian to fix up ourselves (Nate & Jesse aren't invited). Suz also has really great taste in everything, so I always bounce home improvement projects/furniture/outfit ideas off of her. So glad to have her in my life!

I hired her as my intern back in 2018, but little did I realize we were long lost twins. We spent so many hours doing field work together throughout the Elk Creek Watershed. When we sat down to eat our first field lunch together she pulled out THE EXACT SAME FOOD that I've been eating in the field since 2014. Other people in the office were creeped out by how similar we were. Things got so bad that we were once hiking in the woods, heard a crash in the distance, then simultaneously turned to each other and said "Bigfoot." She's the only other person in this world I've met who has the exact same interests and personality as I do. I feel like I've known her a long longer than 4 years and I'm so excited to party with her at my reception!

Lucy Smith

When I moved to Arkansas, I knew absolutely no one and was shy about making friends. Lucy and I were labmates, but she was a semester ahead of me and had already established a friend group. She persistently invited me to hang out with her until I obliged. We became fast friends after that. I'm convinced that nothing bonds people together faster than fieldwork in the hot Arkansas weather! We spent a lot of time sampling streams together and editing each other's thesis work. We even got to travel to Milwaukee, Raleigh, and Sacramento together for Freshwater Science conferences. Lucy is one of the nicest, hardest working humans I know. She is beautiful inside & out and I'm so lucky to have her as a friend.

The first time I met Kelsie, I was showing Nate's little cousins how to handle garter snakes. The second time I interacted with Kelsie, she nonchalantly pulled a handle of Tito's vodka from her purse at a wedding reception. You could say we had solid first impressions of each other... All jokes aside, I admire everything Kelsie does- the way she decorates, cooks, works hard, and raises her babies. She's perfect and I aspire to even be the slightest bit like her. She would selflessly give everything she had to help me out and she & Tyler have been the hugest help as we fix up our house. As far as sister-in-laws go, they probably don't get much better than Kels.

Clara Stoughton

Clara is my sister, obviously. We look identical if you take a picture of me and squash it down to 5'5". I recall Clara being born and just really not being into it (Dad tried to take pictures of me standing next to her birth announcement sign and I was so mad). At age 2, Tom pushed her off the top of our playhouse and broke her foot. We told mom that Clara stepped on a ball and broke her foot & we kept that secret until a few years ago. When Clara was first learning how to spell her name, she wrote "CLRPP" on my bedroom wall, thus, giving her the nickname "Clrppy." Tom and I convinced her she was an adopted bigfoot with laser hair removal for her whole childhood. To wrap up, she's going to be the next Dr. Stoughton. I think the years of torture from Tom & I helped set her on that path.

Harper is Megan's daughter. She loves story time, the frozen soundtrack, Monsters Inc and pulling her dad's beard. She's also impossibly cute and takes really good snapchat videos.

Lyle is Tyler & Kelsie’s son and also Nate and Steph's godson. He loves anything with an engine and going for rides in various pieces of equipment. He's as smart as he is cute (which is a lot) and is a ton of fun to be around.

Bruce is the reason Nate and Steph started talking, so it’s only appropriate that he's involved.
