On 7/7/17 we started chatting back & forth online until Doug decided it was worth the drive to meet up in person. We ended up spending the whole weekend together and the rest was history. I took Doug to one of my favorite restaurants in Flagstaff, Martanne’s and introduced him to Tower Station. We watched the Stanford Prison Experiment and delved into a deep thought-provoking conversation. That was one of many moments I knew Doug was not like the rest. We quickly made plans to spend more time together. Our first year was full of car rides back and forth, lots of facetime and phone calls, and making plans for our future. On our first anniversary we started a tradition of trying to complete an escape room together as a fun way to learn more about how we communicate and problem solve together. We had so much fun and successfully completed the room with time to spare. Shortly after that, Doug decided to make this little mountain town, Flagstaff, his home. And we went to work making our new life together. 2020 has been a tough year for a lot of us and many plans have been upended or changed for everyone. Approaching our anniversary, our local escape room place had closed and Doug had to start getting creative. He is very perseverant and came up with a new plan. I came home from work on 7/7/20 to an escape room just for me with an extra special surprise at the end! Words cannot begin to describe how lucky I am to be loved by such an amazing & thoughtful man. We are beyond excited to be able to celebrate with all of you after quite the tumultuous year for many. We hope you will all be able to join us but we understand that everyone has to do what is best for them & their families in these uncertain times. Please RSVP no later than May 1st.
