How We Met

First Comes School, Then Comes Marriage

Hayden often dreamt of the day he would one day meet his future wife. Fortunately, that day came the first day of school. Hayden was scouting the class roster prior to the big first day, and ultimately came into school without a sweetheart in mind. Until a short blonde girl strutted in 3 minutes late with a Starbucks coffee and white pants that he had never seen before. Low and behold, Shelby, failed to join the correct Facebook group completely missing the class list. Hayden was immediately drawn into what would become, the best choice to sacrifice freedom for love. On that very first day, Hayden made it known to Shelby that he was "super single". Further, after finding out they lived at the same apartment complex, Hayden prematurely offered to drive Shelby to the class gathering after the first big day. Shelby declined as any normal person would. However after weeks of Hayden's pleasure and Shelby's irritation, she caved into going on a date. Life has only progressed forward ever since. Prior to spending the summer in Milwaukee while on a rotation for school, Hayden knew he would miss Shelby dearly. He went ahead and bought a diamond ring before ever consulting Tom, Shelby’s father, for approval. He rushed to show Tom pictures of what he bought. Tom, confused and amazed, nearly broke down minutes before Shelby rushed into the room they were talking. That next morning Tom and Hayden went fishing, and he was excited to have Shelby join Hayden in marriage. After the summer apart, Shelby and Hayden had a family gathering at his family's cabin. Hayden brought her to the dock prior to family pictures, Hayden's family dog, ran down with a handkerchief proclaiming "My Humans Are Getting Married!" Then, Hayden got down on one knee as he teared up, asking Shelby to marry him. Hayden and Shelby are headed to Tucson, Arizona the day after their wedding for a required transitional year as resident physicians, followed by 4 years of radiology residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. They are blessed and excited to share this special day with all who made this journey possible.

To Our Parents..

From the bottom of our heart, thank you. We are here today because of your love, support, and selflessness. We will never be able to pay back what you have done for us, except to carry forward the love and compassion to our children one day. This day is not for us, but you, who made this possible. Love you to the moon and back. -Shelby & Hayden
