One day, a hopeful Steve messaged a pretty girl named Shayla on OkCupid. At the time, Shayla was on the internet dating site mainly to get compliments instead of dates. However, one message caught her eye. Steve's message was about Shayla's cosplay picture. It was respectful and sweet. And even though he messaged her twice in a row before getting a response from her, Shayla thought the cute, cat loving guy had something special. They scheduled a date for February 7th, 2015 to grab a drink at The Shanty in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. They were having so much fun they decided to keep the night going. So they made their way over to Burnside, a bar Steve frequented near his apartment. Over the course of the rest of the evening, they realized they truly enjoyed talking to the other person and wanted to keep doing that for some time to come. Steve respectfully walked Shayla to the subway where they shared an awkward hug while yelling, "We're so awkward!" The rest is history.
Steve and Shayla debate the date of their anniversary so they randomly chose Super Bowl Sunday because nice restaurants without TVs are usually empty. In 2018, that was the plan. Steve & Shayla got gussied up for a night on the town. The two headed to Casa Pública where they discovered the restaurant was having a Superbowl party. The food looked too good to resist so they stayed and had a wonderful time despite the projector. After a delicious dinner, Steve suggested they go for a walk in McCarren Park even though it was raining. He waited for the area to clear of people before stopping Shayla. He grabbed her face and gave her a long kiss. He commented on how pretty the rain and park were. Then he said some nice stuff (both don't remember exactly what was said) before saying, "I have something to ask you." Shayla then realized what was happening and started yelling, "YES!" over and over while laughing and crying so hard she didn't let Steve say anything else. Steve tried to get on one knee but Shayla pulled him back up so he didn't get wet. He managed to get the words out and Shayla yelled yes again. That's not it though! The plan was to go have a drink at the rooftop bar at the Wythe Hotel. Upon arriving, Shayla blissfully walked towards the bar. Steve gently directed her to the left where a group of their closest friends were waiting to congratulate them.
"You make me happier than I ever thought I could be. And if you let me, I will spend the rest of my life trying to make you feel the same way." Yep, Steve totally said that to Shayla at one point that night.
