We like to say we’re a modern-age success story. Steve and I matched on Bumble—he caught my attention with a dad joke: “Why are Saturday and Sunday the strongest days? Because all the other days are weak days.” I countered with my favorite: “What did the janitor say when he came out of the closet? SUPPLIES!” From there, we spent hours talking about sports, life, childhood memories, and even trauma dumping (classic). Here’s the kicker—Steve went on a first date with someone else the very next day (the audacity!). But he texted me right after and we talked until 2 a.m. Since we were both heading out of town for our parents’ birthdays (me to Lake Travis, him to Sargent), we planned our first date for Sunday when we got back. We met at Lucky Strike, where Steve brought me flowers in a boot vase (no one had ever done that for me before). I proceeded to beat him in all three games of bowling, and when the date wasn’t ready to end, we went to Cinemark Memorial to see Red One. Afterward, we circled back to the bowling alley parking lot and talked for two more hours. Before the night ended, Steve asked if he could kiss me goodbye and see me again. The rest, as they say, is history.
