Hi, all! We are drawing near to the date! As we are figuring out final plans and learning updates during this time, we will try our best to then update the website with any info we have. Feel free to reach out to either Steve or I with any questions you have! Now, for the fun stuff. We will be kicking off the weekend with a Welcome Party for Out of Town Guests on Friday (July 10th) @ 6:30 p.m. Come and go as you please when you arrive into town or stay a while. There will be food, drinks, games, and good company. It will be held outside the church (Old Oak Bible Church - Middleburg Hts.) in the lawn and gazebo area. We are excited to celebrate with all of you!
Neither of us expected to meet the person we'd spend the rest of our lives with in the way we did. It was December of 2018 and we had both decided dating in our towns wasn't working out so swell. I (Kate) was home for the holidays when my mom and I thought it would be fun to set up an online dating account just because. (Clarification: For me, not her -- she's happily married.) That's where it all happened. What wasn't taken seriously in the beginning led to a sweet message from Steve, which then led to novel long messages back and forth, turning into texts, hours on end of FaceTime calls, and eventually meeting halfway between our two towns. From there, the adventure began.
Back in the early Spring of 2019, Steve asked me to come along on his family vacation to Myrtle Beach in July. Of course, I happily agreed! Fast forward to earlier on in July when I was up in Ohio visiting him and his family for a few days. My parents came into town as well and it was then that he asked my dad's permission. I didn't know it at the time, but my mom and him had started a secret texting chain discussing the ring, when he was going to ask, and plans for my family to come celebrate with everyone after the proposal. When we got to Myrtle Beach with all of his family, the plan had been set in motion, with me completely unaware. On Wednesday morning, halfway through the trip, he knocked on my door right after I had woken up (#iwokeuplikethis look in full glory), and suggested we go for a walk on the beach. Even in my half - asleep state, I noticed him wearing a nicer shirt and clean shaven...something was up. We got into the car to drive down to the beach (I was still in a walking boot at the time) and when we got there, he helped me walk over to where he had set up the scene. As we got closer, I saw the big heart drawn in the sand with our initials in the middle (K + S). He lined me up in front of it, gave his speech (which is a blur in my memory), and then got down on one knee. After I said yes through the tears, we heard cheering and clapping. Over to the side of the beach where his dad was taking secret pictures of the proposal, there were people having breakfast on their hotel balconies. They had seen the proposal and started celebrating when it was clear I agreed. I joked that he paid them to be there! To make it even better, my family drove down to go to a celebratory lunch with us the next day. What a sweet time it was!
