This is mostly a story about Steve's resourcefulness in the face of Hannah's unwitting derailment of his well-laid plans. Steve's original idea: drive Hannah down to Cape Cod after her Master's defense in time for a romantic sunset proposal. Instead, Hannah convinced him to drive a friend home (Hi, Maddy!), ensuring an additional hour and a half spent in traffic and having to watch the sunset from the car. Luckily, Steve has a wonderful sense of timing and postponed the proposal until the very next day. When he suggested a post-breakfast hike at a nearby state park, Steve didn't expect any questions from Hannah. How naive of him! So when Hannah asked if she should wear hiking clothes or if it was a calm enough walk to wear a dress, he kept his cool and casually answered "whatever you want, workout clothes will be fine!" Luckily, once again, Hannah's subconscious intervened and proposal pics in ratty workout clothes were avoided! But Steve wasn't out of -- or, rather, into -- the woods yet. Unbeknownst to Hannah, they were on a planned schedule with photographers. So, naturally, she decided to linger over breakfast. But Hannah maintains this was Steve's fault for choosing such a picturesque bed and breakfast! Finally, our hero managed to get our heroine to the prearranged boardwalk location. But, no photographers in sight! Which, ideally, is what you want. So Steve popped down on one knee, Hannah promptly started crying and (obviously) said yes. After, Steve looked around hoping for some well-camouflaged photographers to spring out of the bushes, but he figured the photographers must have been taking some stealth shots. So Steve and Hannah merrily started walking around the park. A few yards down the path, they saw two people carrying cameras, facing the other way. Steve took Hannah in the wrong direction! Fortunately, Hannah is great at crying and the proposal pics are incredibly accurate re-enactments. And to be honest, she loved getting proposed to twice.
