We met on the as-good-as-you-can-get-without-paying-actual-money dating website, OKCupid. He messaged me. I ignored him (intentionally or unintentionally, I can't remember). A few months later I log back into the site and he bravely messaged me again despite my prior silence. He used multi-syllabic words, referenced information from my profile, and (SHOCK AND AWE) spelled everything correctly and was a decent human; for those in the know, this is a rarity online. I was sold.
We rode the Anakeesta (chair lift) up to the top of a mountain in Gatlinburg, TN. He had not been subtle or sneaky, but I appreciated that. I knew *what* was coming, just not where/when. We walked ALL over this mountain, did a ropes path through the trees, climbed to the summit, climbed down from the summit, overall had an amazing visit. However, as we finished everything on the mountain, Steve started looking around for something, I didn't know what. He looks back up the climbing path to the summit of the mountain (that we had already gone all the way up and down) and asks "was that the summit?" and I said "...yes?" to which he replied "Damn, we have to go back up!" At this point I knew what was up and said "but, do we really?" and pointed to a lovely bench off to the side of the mountain that overlooked the city and the valley. We sat there and Steve asked if I "wanted to marry him." I told him "yes, but is that your question?" and he laughed and, while sitting next to me, as a partner, asked me "Will you marry me?" I ecstatically said "Yes!"
