Kyndra and Stephen met in the spring of 2018 while training for the Chicago marathon with Team World Vision. But it wasn’t until the following year that the real interest began… Kyndra was trying to plug into the Rockford community by volunteering and initiating 27 coffee dates in one year! At every new group or event, Stephen was already a consistent and well-loved part of the team. His name quickly made it onto the coffee invite list and Kyndra began looking for the best moment (and the courage!) to ask him out. In the meantime, Stephen had noticed Kyndra consistently showing up in (literal) rain or shine. He started trying to make more than small talk and, after a Stroll on State workshop in October, he asked her out to dinner. A few weeks later, they decided to give this "dating" thing a try! Five months into their relationship, March 2020 rolled around. No one anticipated how the world was going to change over one weekend. What better time to learn someone’s true character than when the world is turning upside down? Almost two years later, on January 23rd, 2022, they had a normal day. They went to church. They made lunch at home (scrambled eggs and toast). Kyndra curled up for a nap and Stephen let her sleep for two hours (true love!). He woke her up by strumming his usual bluegrass favorites at her side. This time though, he had a new song to share: Temporary Love by Ben Platt (one of Kyndra's favorite artists). They sang together getting most of the words right while smiling ear to ear. When the song was done, Kyndra hopped up to give Stephen a hug but he had already dropped to one knee. He proposed and she said "yes". Just the two of them on a quiet Sunday afternoon.
