Any tips for getting around Florence?

Answer

Public transportation in Florence is widely used. There are trams and buses. Buy your tickets BEFORE you board the tram/bus. Bus tickets cost 1.50€ (2.50€ on board) and are good and are good for 90 minutes. Ubers are new to Florence and may not be as reliable, but there are plenty of taxis, which you can find at taxi stands throughout the city. Most destinations in Florence are walkable from the city center. How can I pay for Gelato, etc...?

Answer

Italy uses Euros as their currency. Most vendors accept credit/debit card payments. However, depending on your bank/card, there may be foreign transaction fees. Alternatively, you can get Euros either ahead of time from your bank or using an ATM in Italy (there may be a fee). *Be sure to alert your bank before traveling so your cards are active in Italy.

Will my phone work?

Answer

Yes, and no, depending on your plan. Option 1: Rely on WiFi only. Turn cellular data and roaming off (airplane mode), and only use your phone when you're connected to WiFi. IMessage should work through WiFi, but WhatsApp is also a good option. Option 2: You can purchase an international day pass (usually about 10 dollars a day) from your service provider. Then you can use your phone just like normal.
