While we love your children dearly, due to limited seating at Camp Firefly, our wedding will be kid-free. However, if you want to turn our wedding weekend into a family event, you are welcome to bring them to Homestead, as long as you make arrangements to have someone stay with your children while you attend the ceremony and reception. But let's be honest... don't you want a little weekend away to have some adult fun?! :)
Since we're in a secluded area, cell phone coverage may or may not work. ATT and Verizon seem to work well, but others such as T Mobile do not get much reception. I have Verizon and have not had an issue at Homestead.
The ceremony begins at 4, however please plan for an extra 30 minutes to get up the mountain top. You can't drive up to the top of Bay Mountain. You must take the chairlift (which runs slowly!) or guests with special accommodations can be shuttled via golf cart.
It's Northern Michigan, an elevated area and we're on the lake. It could be 80 degrees or it could be 50 degrees. If I were you, I'd bring something in case it's cool or wear layers (just in case). Watch the weather forecast and dress comfortably. There will be some uneven ground so comfortable shoes are suggested.
Homestead is extremely helpful and will work with you on any special needs or requests that you have. Due to another wedding taking place that weekend, some rooms will be blocked until June 10th. If you are unable to get the accommodation that you want, ask the reservation staff to put you on a list in case something opens up AND check back after June 10th when more rooms will become available.
No. When you make your reservation be sure to notify the staff that you are there for a wedding and would like an early check-in before the ceremony. Homestead makes wedding guests top priority at their resort. *Be sure to mention this if you're in the wedding party for Thursday night!
Our wedding discount (11%) applies to all of our guests staying at Homestead, regardless of the type of accommodation. Be sure to tell them you are making a reservation for the Geiger-Dillon wedding. Discounts only apply on Friday night.
Yes. Homestead has three dining options (Nonas, Cafe Manitou and Whiskers) and a large grocery store with food, beverages and other items for purchase. If you need something more, check out Anderson's Market in Glen Arbor. If you're in a pinch, check with us! Nick and I always have coffee, beer and snacks!
No. The ceremony will take place on top of Bay Mountain. The only way to get down Bay Mountain is by taking the chairlift or a shuttle van. Personal vehicles are not permitted on top of the mountain. Once you get down the mountain, there will be a shuttle van to take guests to the reception. However, you can walk there (10-15 minute walk on uneven ground), or drive. For shuttle information and times, check with the staff at the front desk.
Unfortunately, no. The reception will take place from 5 (cocktail hour) through 11 p.m. According to city ordinances, at 11:00 p.m. we must turn off the music and close the bar. However, you will have one more hour (midnight) to finish that last drink and say your goodbyes. Camp Firefly will close at midnight. After that, take the party to your room, but PLEASE keep your voices down. The Bride and Groom will be charged for any noise or disturbances that are reported.
