How We Met

We met on Match.com. He messaged me on January 5th and I responded two days later. (A girl can't seem too eager, right?!) We hit it off right away and decided to meet on January 12, 2018. For our first date, we went to Anita's Kitchen in Ferndale. From the moment he sat down, I felt so comfortable with him - like I had known him my whole life. We talked for hours...about everything! At the end of the night, I think we both knew that something amazing had just begun.

The Proposal

It was the day after Christmas. Nick suggested that we go ice skating at Campus Martius after work. Knowing we had dinner plans with my friends, Dave and Kendahl, I was hesitant to agree, but Nick promised we would be back in plenty of time for dinner. We walked to Campus Martius park after work and it was beautiful. The lights were glowing, the air was crisp, but not too cold - it was perfect! That is ... until we got to the ice skating tent. The line for skate rental wrapped around the tent and through the park. I knew we wouldn't have enough time and suggested that we leave, but Nick insisted that we stay. 50 minutes later ... we finally got to the front of the line. By that time, we only had 20 minutes left to skate! I was pretty worried and a little annoyed with Nick. We got our skates, took a quick photo in front of the giant Christmas tree and headed for the outdoor rink. The SECOND our skates hit the ice, an announcement came of over the PA system, "Skaters, please exist the rink for the Zamboni to clear the ice." We couldn't believe it! Now we really wouldn't have time to skate. We skated exactly 3/4 of a lap around the rink and I started to head towards the exist. Nick grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the center of the rink. Before I could ask what he was doing, he got down on one knee. He said, "You are the love of my life and I've been waiting a long time to ask you this...Will you marry me?" I laughed, I cried, I said, "Yes!" (And cried a little more.) He stood up and kissed me. The crowd from the rink cheered and then we skated off the ice before the Zamboni ran us over!
