Things To Do

We moved to Richmond in July of 2024 after falling in love with the city. We are SO excited to share a bit of the city with you. Below are a variety of recommendations that we would highly encourage you check out on this visit (or your next!) This is just a small sample of all that Richmond has to offer - ask us for more and we'd be happy to deliver!

The James River, Belle Isle, Brown's Island

Walking Distance: Looking for a gorgeous place to stretch your legs right in the middle of the city? Look no further than the James River. Depending on where you hop on, you can easily access several gorgeous nature Islands like Belle Isle, or home to many, many festivals - Brown's Island. There are pedestrian bridges with beautiful views of the city, and several murals, restaurants, and museums along the way.

Maymont

1700 Hampton St, Richmond, VA 23220

Lyft or car needed (but worth it) Gorgeous free 100 acre green space with a variety of gardens and historical buildings. There are animals like bison and bears to see, making it a great trip with kids too. This is one of the first places we explored in Richmond and loved how beautiful the Italian and Japanese gardens were and how many areas there were to explore!

the urban Farmhouse Market & Cafe

2100 East Cary Street, Richmond, VA 23223

Walking Distance: Great place to grab some coffee, breakfast, or little local Richmond products. (Warning - The things in the pumpkin bread are raisins, not chocolate chips. Still good, but a strange surprise)

The Poe Museum

1914 East Main Street, Richmond, VA 23223

A short lyft or good walk: Beautiful courtyard and a fun, funky museum dedicated to Edgar Allen Poe

Virginia Museum of Fine Arts

200 North Arthur Ashe Boulevard, Richmond, VA 23220

Lyft or Car Needed: Wonderful, large museum where admission is always free! Check out the museum and walk around the museum district after - you won't be disappointed with the architecture in the neighborhood, or the many other museum options you can wander into!

Carytown

Richmond, VA 23221

Lyft or Car Needed: Explore Carytown while you're here! A great long strip of murals, cafes, shops, bars, and more! Often a hotspot of live outdoor music and various downtown festivals

Riverfront Canal Cruises

139 Virginia Street, Richmond, VA 23219

Walking Distance: Looking for a cute little activity that gets you on the river without getting all wet, then a river canal cruise may be for you!

Sub Rosa Bakery

620 North 25th Street, Richmond, VA 23223

Don't sleep on their croissants! NOTE: A recent fire caused this community staple to temporary close. We are leaving the recommendation in hopes of reopening before you arrive

The Tobacco Company Restaurant

1201 East Cary Street, Richmond, VA 23219

Walking Distance: The food is pretty good, but the aesthetics and drinks are fantastic

Riverbend Roastery

2623 East Broad Street, Richmond, VA 23223

Short Lyft or a Bigger Walk: Grab a coffee to go, then turn the corner and stroll down N 28th street for 4 blocks and enjoy your coffee with the beautiful view of the Libby Park overview. On the way, you can swing into The Honey Baked Bee where we got our wedding cake and grab a delicious pastry

Stone Brewing Tap Room - Richmond

4300 Williamsburg Avenue, Richmond, VA 23231

A short lyft or good walk: Less than 2 blocks from our house, a fun brewery with great vibes

Echelon Wine Bar

1209 East Cary Street, Richmond, VA 23219

Walking Distance: Fun classy place for a quick wine tasting and some small plates

For all the days along the way
