Question

How do I book my flight? When should I book my flight?

Answer

6-8 months before the wedding is usually the best time to purchase tickets at the best price. You can book flights on your own or through our travel agent. You will be flying into the Cancun Airport (CUN). Side note: When coming out of the Cancun airport every single person will try to get you to take their taxi or sell you something. Just continue to the doors that lead you outside and search for your name that your driver is holding. You will most likely have a short wait. Grab a beer and relax. BUT DO NOT LEAVE YOUR ITEMS UNATTENDED. The ride to the resort is about 45 minutes.

Question

Transportation from hotel and airport

Answer

Transportation from the airport to the hotel and vise versa is included in the cost. Once your airfare is bought, please email your flight itinerary to Alorea and she will set up your transportation.

Question

Should I bring a wedding gift?

Answer

You are not expected to bring a gift since your presence is gift enough.

Question

Is there a dress code for the resort?

Answer

Men must wear long pants to the specialty restaurants! Women must also dress nicely for the specialty restaurants (no jean shorts etc.) You can wear whatever to the buffets as long as you aren't in your swimsuit. Men can wear their swim trunks with a t-shirt and females are good to wear a cover-up as long as it's not open in the front.

Question

What should I pack?

Answer

Enough Sunscreen for your entire stay! (It's very overpriced on the resort), Bug Spray, and Tylenol. You may also want to bring a snorkel if you plan on going out in front of the Palace to swim with turtles! Don't worry about bringing beach towels. The resort provides them!

Question

Can I use USD? What's the currency?

Answer

Yes, many resorts, tours, and stores take both USD and pesos, but be sure to prepare your credit and debit cards. Call your bank and let them know the dates you will be gone. Charges made at the resort or elsewhere on your trip may be subject to a foreign transaction fee by your bank (normally 1-3%). The local currency is the Mexican peso, although US dollars are easy to exchange should you wish to take foreign currency with you. There is an ATM on-site that will give out pesos. Pesos rate changes daily. $1 USD could be equivalent to 19 pesos one day and 15 pesos the next.

Question

Will I be able to use my cellphone in Mexico?

Answer

Depends on your carrier. You should be able to check your plan to see if Mexico is covered in your plan. Or you may be able to add it for a daily fee. Make sure you ask your carrier how to set this up so you're not stuck in Mexico without it if you plan on using it. You may also purchase a wifi plan at Barcelo for $12 a day or there are some free wifi areas around the resort. I highly recommend screenshotting the map of Barcelo and other important information so you have it even if you do not have service. Side note: Each room does have a safe but it is not big enough for a laptop so try not to bring a lot of valuables. We do recommend locking everything up.

Question

Do I need to tip while I'm at the resort?

Answer

Tipping the bartenders, housekeepers, waiters, is appreciated but not necessary. If you tip you may get more alcohol in your drinks, quicker service, and more snacks in your room.

Question

If I have a food allergy, can I make a special request?

Answer

Yes, please make your request early so we can ensure your meal is correct for the reception. At check-in you can tell them you have a certain diet/food allergy and they will print a card for you to take to the restaurants. We want you to enjoy the week as much as we will without having to worry about what you can and can't eat!

Question

How do I get a reservation for a specialty restaurant?

Answer

There are 11 restaurants in total at Barcelo Maya Grand Resort. Guests staying at Palace (you guys) have access to all 11 restaurants. You must book your specialty dinners in person at guest services located in each lobby. I highly recommend you book them the moment you check in to ensure you get all the restaurants you want at a time that is convenient for you. Guest services desks are also located on the ground floor of each room building. Dress code to access the a la carte restaurants: Men 13 and older must wear long pants and closed-toed shoes. Women can wear open-toed shoes/sandals. No beach shoes/flip-flops. No beachwear. For children over the age of 13, the dress code is the same as for adults

Question

How can I connect/setup plans with guests at the resort?

Answer

We will be utilizing a Facebook group to help communicate while at the resort. Guests will be able to use that for meet-ups during the week (what pool, bar, or dinner place a group will be at). More details will be provided closer to the wedding!
