Walk along Ægisíða and enjoy a quiet walk by the sea away from downtown. Start off at Kaffihús Vesturbæjar and get coffee to go. After your scenic walk by the ocean, walk over to Vesturbæjarlaug for a swim.
Laugardalslaug is the largest swimming pool in Reykjavík, in the Laugardalur neighborhood where Stefán grew up. Don't miss the delish hotdog stand on your way out. It's a must, highly recommended by both Stefán and Benni.
Sky Lagoon is a modern geothermal spa, 10 minutes from Reykjavík. We recommend this over Blue Lagoon.
Don't miss The Settlement Exhibition! The exhibition is based on the archaeological excavation of the ruin of one of the first houses in Iceland. "The exhibition’s centrepiece is a 10th-century Viking longhouse discovered in 2001, which is preserved in its original location and gives a fascinating glimpse into settlement-period Reykjavík." Sarah recommends saving this for later in the afternoon (closes at 5:00pm) and then enjoying an appetizer or early dinner at Fiskmarkaðurinn / Fish Market, but be sure to make a reservation.
The National Museum of Iceland is a must visit spot if you want to learn about the history and culture of Iceland.
Perlan is a great spot to visit, especially if you have kids. It's both a museum (including an ice cave) and rotating glass dome, which you can check out from the restaurant or observation deck overlooking the city. Sarah regularly has remote work hangs over coffee at the top of Perlan with her friend, Thora. Learn more: https://guidetoiceland.is/travel-iceland/drive/perlan
Sarah took her parents here in June 2024 during their first visit to Iceland. It's a fun, quick show and you learn A LOT about Iceland's volcanic history and ongoing activity. The lava show includes REAL lava. Learn more: https://www.instagram.com/lavashowiceland
Ásmundarsalur is right next to Hallgrímskirkja. Reykjavík Roasters (delish coffee shop/cafe) is downstairs and upstairs is home to a rotating art gallery. Ásmundarsalur has always been one of Sarah's fav spots.
This outdoor museum includes more than 20 buildings, which form a town square, a village, and a farm.
