Go searching for Nessie, experience a day on a Loch. Loch Ness combines beautiful views with Scottish hospitality.
This is a MUST do in Edinburgh (or if you pop over to Glasgow.). This restaurant piles deliciousness on pancakes and makes you wondering why we don't have anything like this in the U.S. (Any interested investors please contact us separately we would like to open one here.)
An amazing drive for the scenery alone. You can help yourself with planning by a quick google search of "Isle of Skye Intineraries." The island is ideal for hikers or walkers. There are numerous popular stone formations across the island to hike up to OR catch a glimpse from the car park. We spent a day on Skye in October. You could easily see 10 attractions in the day by driving the route and never hiking into the sites. Or you could take a day or two, book a bed and breakfast, and hike out to 2-3 areas each day. You go for the romance of the island, you stay for the breathtaking vistas.
I don't know much about this site...but it has served as the backdrop of Diana Gabalgon's "Outlander" series. A historic prison with untold stories of persecution, persistance and sorrow.
The Scottish equivalent of Gettysburg. Fought with the hope of placing King James the VIs grandson Charles Stuart (the bonny prince) on the throne of Scotland this battle was the beginning of the end. The site of the '69 uprising which led to Catholics no longer being able to practice openly in Scotland. It was the end of the clans and Gaelic as a lifestyle. The site bears stones of all the clans present for the battle and lost their lives in the pursuit of religious freedom. The sight of the last major uprising of the Jacobites, is home to those who lost their lives fighting for not only Scottish independence but religious independence.
A quick journey down the street from our venue drops you onto the Nairn Beach. Situated on the Firth of Moray, this offers a perfect place to unwind.
Do you need a reason to go ?!?!?!
We did this tour during our first trip abroad as a family. It included costumes, visits to Winterfell, The Reach, "Beyond the Wall," The Twins as well as a lunch (separate charge) in a quaint village. This tour is run by a family whose dogs served as "Summer" and "Grey Wind." They also had the opportunity to serve as extras in many episodes. The costumes were keepsakes from the set.
Put on the map after the BBC Channel 4 (Netflix) show Derry Girls, this city boasts the only complete walled city in Ireland. Site of tyranny of IRA era bombings and religious battles, Derry provides a relaxed look at life in N. Ireland in a city rich with history.
