How We Met

First comes memes, then comes marriage

They placed our desks next to each other at work, and we didn't have cubes. It's great for "work and collaboration," but it's even better for texting memes and waiting eagerly for the real-time reaction. I'm positive the constant snickering was annoying to coworkers. If I remember right, I'm pretty sure they separated us after a few months... #productivity. After discovering our sense of humor was exactly the same, soon things progressed into a great friendship. When you work with someone 8 hours a day, every day, you see the best and worst in someone, especially under stress. We both remained extremely close as friends, and grew alongside each other in our careers; however, we separately dealt with some outside relationship struggles. Fast forward 877 days after first meeting each other, a lot had changed. We were both single for the first time. We've acknowledged that we're pretty much best friends. Most close co-workers think we're dating even though we weren't. At a company event, we were pretty much backed into a corner to come clean that we were dating. We still weren't. There was a gut feeling that we were the only ones ignoring the obvious. The timing was finally right, and we decided to take a leap of faith, knowing it could jeopardize our working relationship and more importantly our friendship. Another 753 days later since the time of going from co-workers and friends to boyfriend and girlfriend, we were engaged and still haven't looked back. We still send memes across the living room.

Sunrise and Sunset on Amelia Island We spend a few days alone as a couple every Thanksgiving holiday to see a new place together, and this past year we chose Amelia Island. We stayed near the beach with an amazing view and on the second day we took the advice of the owner and watched the sunrise from our balcony. It was beautiful and serene and then we promptly went back to sleep. Once we woke again, we did some exploring in historic downtown Fernandina and along the beach. Stacey: I was really interested in finding a sand dollar and a conch shell so it turned into a pretty long walk. After it got chilly, we started heading back inside empty handed when right in front of where we were staying I found both. So excited, I boasted about how I was so lucky and this must be my lucky day. Little did I know it was going to get even better! David: I knew I was going to do it that week, I just didn't know exactly when. The night before, we discovered this beautiful park that overlooked the sunset, but we were rushing to get there and couldn't really enjoy it. I knew that this was the right place, and we needed to go back. After our sand dollar walk, we made plans to head back to the serene and quiet park with piers stretching into the marsh. Standing there in the perfect weather, moss hanging from the trees, summer bugs in choir, and the sun just touching down in the distance...this was the moment. Stacey: Out of nowhere I start being dive bombed by gnats everywhere! I was getting creative in my methods to shoo them away too. I almost dropped my nice sunglasses in the marsh. Through all this David tried his best to be romantic while also ducking. I made the comment that sunrise and sunset in the same day is so special and he said the day isn't over yet. He then got down on one knee to ask me to marry him. I started crying immediately and kept asking him "are you serious." Of course I said YES! Even amidst the comedy, the ring, and moment, was beautiful.
