Darrick and Alyia met at George Mason University when they joined their respective Greek organizations (06/08!) in November 2012. They quickly became inseparable and began dating in June 2013. During their six years of dating, Darrick and Alyia received their Bachelors degrees. Darrick moved to Boston, MA to complete his Masters in Vocal Performance. Alyia went to Graduate school in Blacksburg, VA and then went on to begin Medical School. Despite all the changes life brought, their love, respect, and support for one another remained constant. Darrick proposed to Alyia on December 23, 2019!

It is no secret that Christmas time is Darrick and Alyia’s favorite time of the year! They kick off the holiday season each year by throwing their annual Christmas party. So when Darrick told Alyia he wanted them to take photos at the Christmas Tree in Georgetown, she was elated. They dressed up and headed to DC. Parking in Georgetown during the holidays can be a frustrating task. This year however, it especially seemed to agitate Darrick, as he frantically ran over curbs when attempting to park. Alyia thought this was strange, but did not ponder on it further. They strolled by the waterfront and enjoyed a romantic evening surrounded by the joyful cheer the holidays bring. Hand in hand, they continued towards the Christmas Tree. Darrick asked a fellow spectator if he would take their photo and before Alyia knew it, Darrick was down on one knee asking her to spend forever with him. Of course, she said “YES”! Moments later, startled by the flashes going off behind her, Alyia realized Darrick arranged for his sister to photograph their evening. Alyia thought the night couldn't get any better, when Darrick informed her, it was time for them to make their way to Flavios (Alyia’s favorite restaurant in Georgetown). During their walk to Flavios, they had the most beautiful photoshoot. Upon arrival, Alyia was surprised again! Darrick invited her family and their best friends to the restaurant to celebrate with them *cue the waterworks*. Alyia couldn't believe they knew the entire time! It was a magical day, neither of them will ever forget! Darrick and Alyia are so excited to celebrate their love and kick off the 2021 holiday season with you all!
