I already RSVP'd for your wedding in 2020, do I have to do it again for the 2021 date?

Answer

Yes, please! We've included postal RSVP cards this year so that we can be certain that we collect contact details for everyone, just in case of any last minute emergencies.

What is the dress code?

Answer

Black tie optional. That means tuxes and gowns are welcome, but so are suits and cocktail dresses. Wear whatever makes you feel fancy!

Are you getting married amongst the bookshelves?

Answer

No, the Queensland Terrace is a beautiful function space which just happens to be in the State Library building... Isn't it sweet to get married in a building that houses all the greatest love stories? <3

Can I take photos (and put them on social media)?

Answer

Provided that you aren't disrupting any photos that our photographer is trying to capture, take as many as you like! If there is a particular photo you would like to have taken, feel free to ask our photographer to capture it on his snazzy camera for you - he'll be around until the formalities (like speeches, the cake-cutting and the first dance) are over. Don't forget to use our hashtag #sowright when posting photos on your socials so we can see them too!

What about gifts?

Answer

We are so grateful to have you celebrate this special day with us. Your love, laughter and company on our wedding day are the most precious gifts to us. However, if you wish to honour us with something extra, there will be a wishing well at the reception.

Will it be cold?

Answer

We hope the weather will be perfect! But if it helps you decide weather to bring along your parka or to leave it at home, Google says that the average high for this time of year is 24 degrees celsius and the average low is 16 degrees celsius. You should also know that the ceremony and reception venues are both well-sheltered but are open air.

How far is the distance between the State Library and GOMA?

Answer

The State Library and GOMA are right next door to each other with nothing but a short footpath between them, it's just a moment's walk! Café Bistro (the pre-reception drinks venue) is at GOMA. You can get to it from the State Library by going through the atrium to GOMA and down towards the river.

Are children invited to attend?

Answer

To give all of our guests the opportunity to celebrate without having to worry about tired little eyes and loud noises on little ears, we politely request that you leave your little ones behind on this occasion. Make it a date night!

What should I do between the ceremony and the pre-reception drinks?

Answer

Drinks and light refreshments will be served in the ceremony space while we are having photos taken.

How do I get to the Roof Terrace at GOMA?

Answer

The lovely staff at GOMA Café Bistro will direct you up to the Roof Terrace via their internal elevator at the conclusion of the pre-reception drinks.

Is the Art Gallery and GOMA the same thing?

Answer

No. The Queensland Art Gallery (QAG) is next door to the State Library (on the same side of the building as the Museum). GOMA is also next door to the State Library but on the other side (closer to the William Jolly Bridge).

I'm standing on the Stanley Place side at GOMA and can't see Café Bistro, where is it?

Answer

Café Bistro is located on the Brisbane River side of GOMA so head towards the river and the huge statue of the elephant standing on it's head and you will find it!

Where can I smoke?

Answer

Smoking (including e-cigarettes) is prohibited at all of our venues. Please see the State Library or GOMA staff (as applicable) for directions to the designated smoking area/s.
