How He Asked

August 6th, 2022

Justin had brought up the idea of us going to Duke Farms over the weekend. We woke up the morning of August 6th and got ready to go on a nice walk around the property. We didn't think it was going to be hot, but boy, oh boy, was it ever. Justin had never been there before so I told to him that I really wanted to go to the Orchid House while we were there. We arrived, grabbed some breakfast consisting of cornbread and and a croissant - all carbs while we were on a Keto diet (and he later tells me this should have been my first dead give away that something was going on.) We make our way on our walk and come to a split in the path. Directly down the right would be the Orchid House (straightforward, and no fun.) So we go down the left path which allowed us to walk passed the Mermaid Pool, the statue of the little boy and the old foundation. We finally made our way to the Orchid House and it was as beautiful as the last time I had seen it. We walk in and start taking photos of the flowers and of each other. We make our way through the color-filled greenhouse. We find ourselves in the center-most part of the house where there's a fountain (my favorite part of this place) and Justin takes a seat on a bench. I take a picture of him (now one of my favorites.) He tells me that there is a really pretty flower across the way that I should look at. Clueless me goes over to it, whips out my phone and 35mm film camera and starts taking pictures of it and all the other flowers. I did have a thought cross my mind -- "Ya know, it would be ideal if he proposed right now" -- and when I turned around, he was down on one knee. It was just me and him in there and it was truly the most perfect moment. We were in another area soon enough taking in all our enjoyment. Saying yes was the best and easiest decision of my life.
