Kansas City is known for their BBQ and Joe's is the best around. Their signature sandwich, The Z Man, also has a vegetarian option so it's Jeremy approved. Located in an old gas station, you won't be able to stop thinking about their French fries!
Founded in the same year that we were born, Boulevard is a must-visit for craft beer drinkers.
It's a whiskey playground! J. Rieger is the originator of Kansas City Style Whiskey, which is a blend of bourbon, corn whiskey, and rye, finished with sherry. Rieger has it all, a speakeasy, a beautiful outdoor area, delicious food, a museum, AND a slide!
One of the last remaining independent movie theaters in the country, Screenland Armour is one our favorite parts of living in Kansas City. With a great selection of food and local craft beer, if you have time for a movie, we can't recommend them highly enough.
One of our favorite places to grab a bite downtown. Milwaukee deli has pizza slices as big as your head, great salads, and delicious sandwiches.
Kansas City's downtown public library is a beautiful building. Not only is the outside gorgeous, but the rooftop patio has a giant chess board that Sophie can see from her office window. Make sure you check out the parking garage next door, designed to look like a shelf of giant books.
Looking for souvenirs from your trip? Made in KC has an amazing selection of cool items from local makers. And, just around the corner from Hotel Phillips, this Made in KC location also has a coffeeshop attached!
Looking for upscale eats? The Farmhouse is a locally sourced farm-to-table restaurant with a seasonal menu that is always rotating. Great for carnivores and vegetarians alike.
One of Sophie's favorite places to eat in town. Tribe is inspired by street food from all over the world and features a diverse menu and great vibes.
Built over a hundred years ago, this building is absolutely breathtaking and worth a visit on its own. It is also across the street from the WWI Museum and Memorial, which sports one of the best views of downtown Kansas City. Just take the free streetcar to the end of the line.
As an East Coast girl, Sophie is a real bagel snob and this place passes the test! They bake their bagels fresh daily and make their own shmears. NOT OPEN ON MONDAYS.
Easily accessible on the free streetcar, this area boasts one of the oldest farmers markets (Saturdays and Sundays) plus great places to eat and shop. From here you can also also access the Town of Kansas Bridge and Berkley Riverfront Park, great places for a walk or run.
Whether you are a fan of baseball or not this museum is a Must Visit! A phenomenal and immersive Civil Rights museum. You can buy a single ticket, or one for the Negro Leagues AND Jazz Museums. Both are high on our list of recommendations. If you want to see live jazz, check The Phoenix for Jazz Brunch or Green Lady Lounge and Black Dolphin for evening shows.
Missouri's ONLY distillery with a female Head-Distiller. Restless Spirits is famous for both their Irish whiskeys AND their Builders Gin (Sophie's favorite). We bottle there frequently so you may even drink out a bottle that we helped package!
One of our favorite places for both beer and food. Torn Label was a 10 before they hired an award wining chef to curate their ever-changing menu. Eat fancy food in a casual brewery environment?! Yes please!
A beautiful park with a 1+ mile walking path and a rose garden that should be fully in-bloom!
